Connor started Student Grounds 6 years ago, as a sophomore in high school. He's currently a junior in multidisciplinary engineering at Purdue, and employs both high school and college students in the Greater Lafayette area.At SGC, our goal is to employ students that are paying their own way through school. That means rent, tuition, groceries, insurance, etc, are their responsibility. Going through school like this is a huge undertaking and forces many students to drop out. We want to prevent that by offering high pay and consistent work for excellent students at Purdue, and for high schoolers preparing for college.That being said, this isn't charity! Unlike many local pros, our profit margins are slim and flat. We only charge for actual hours worked, and materials purchased, plus a small margin per hour for equipment and marketing expenses. We work hard to keep overhead low, so we can charge you less, and pay our student crews more. Also, we never ask for a down payment, or accept money until you're totally satisfied.Giving back in the Community
We operate with 0 real profit. Every dollar is either going straight towards our rent and tuition, or is reinvested. We are here, and able to be students, because of the support of this community. We couldn't be more grateful. And that's why, up to 5 days a month, we give back by volunteering to help local families and seniors in need. However, we are only able to do this when business is good and our bills are paid! But lately, we've been very fortunate for the support we've gotten, and have been able to donate about 10% of all hours worked!
